Cushions are possibly the most underrated décor accessories, yet they’re the easiest way to liven up a living room or bedroom. They help you elevate your interiors, simply and effortlessly. If you like to change things up every now and then, you could buy four or five extra covers and change them seasonally to create a new look in your home during the year.

Then, you’ll need to think about your cushion insert. There are various cushion fillers available, with varying quality and dimensions. How plump do you need your cushions to be? Do you want to be able to shape them, or can they stay the same shape?

Make sure, next, that you know the size you must look for. For the ultimate in plumpness and comfort, go for a cushion pad the same size or a size bigger than your cover. Go 2-3cm bigger for rectangular pillows; and about 5-6cm larger for square ones.

When choosing a cushion insert, opt for something with a long-lasting, firm filling so you and your guests will be comfortably, properly propped up when seated. Feather and down are the ultimate in luxury, hence the higher price. Work within your budget but try to get cushion fillers that are durable.

Unlike with pillow covers, when it comes to cushion covers, don`t be afraid to play with colour and texture.

For example, if your living room furniture is cream, white, charcoal or black, liven things up with a vibrant, multicolour tribal-style sofa cushion with a rustic-chic texture.
