The cover you put on the floor can make or break a room. Flooring decisions are about more than looks. You should consider durability, comfort, and cost too.

But when it comes to looks, nothing is more appealing than a luxury carpet to match your high-end furniture

Your first question may be, a handmade rug or carpet flooring – which is best? Carpet is fixed to the floor from wall to wall; rugs can be moved about and usually only cover a certain area. Many prefer moveable mats as they are more versatile and gather less dust, since air can flow beneath them and they can be cleaned under.

In any room, they can make a considerable style statement. For example, in an exotic themed living room, an Indian rug with an ornate pictorial design will be the most admired work of art in the space. In an open-plan living area with industrial furniture, a design featuring textured patterns will bring welcome warmth.

A handmade rug is a tactile investment piece that can be passed down. It is generally one of two types – a hand tufted rug, or a hand-knotted rug

A hand-knotted rug, such as a Persian rug, is the most labour intensive to make, hence it’s more costly. They’re woven completely by hand on a specific loom in a traditional, time-consuming process. The value of one of these cannot be over-estimated, so if you splurge on one, be sure to take care of it properly.

Adding a hand-knotted rug to your room is one of the easiest ways to give it a makeover. The design you choose can be simple, such as a neutral grey one with textural interest. Or you can make a style statement with a bold Oriental design featuring vivid pops of colour.
