When it comes to choosing the right dining chairs, considerations of scale come into play. Consider not only the specifications of your dining table, for compatibility; but also the seat height, back height, width and depth of the chairs, for comfort. For guests to feel most at ease while dining, they shouldn’t feel cramped. For this reason, there should be a space of 10 to 12 inches between the seat and the bottom of the tabletop. There should also be at least two inches of space between each diner. Sound a little technical? Dining table sets are usually designed with such details incorporated.

The size of your dining area is also important, and may influence your style choices. In a large, cavernous space, chunky dining chairs work well to draw the eye and ground the room. Match them with a table in the same hue for a cohesive look; then choose décor accessories in a vibrant accent colour to liven things up. However, if you’re furnishing a smaller dining nook, slender, retro-style seats with tripod legs would be a good bet.

Style wise, for luxury dining chairs, you can’t go wrong with comfortable, upholstered designs. Classic wooden dining chairs come in so many varieties these days, they’re suitable for everything from Scandinavian minimalism to eclectic boho-chic.

Not every seat needs to be the same. If you prefer to mix and match a bit, you could place luxury dining chairs along the long edges of your rectangular table, with armchairs at the heads.
