Coffee tables keep us company in our living areas, whether they’re used for placing drinks and snacks or storing our current reads and remotes. Since we look at them every day, make sure the one you choose is something you’ll happily admire for years to come. Alternatively, you could always make a seasonal swap-out if you get bored of the look.

When choosing your tables, and luxury console tables consider the height of the other furniture in the room. Avoid having everything at the same height by playing with levels. This adds visual interest rather than flatness. In terms of shape, consider the room and your needs. If you have small children, a round table eliminates any potential mishaps that can come from sharp corners.

To maximise storage space in a naval or safari-themed room, why not go for a quirky trunk design resembling a repurposed suitcase of old? To make an organic statement, choose a signature design with a table-top made from a slice of petrified wood. For a rustic-chic look, several designs use both glass and chunky wood, such as railway sleepers, for something earthy yet featuring a modern stlye. If a luxury coffee table is more what you’re after, a design made from marble is sure to get the look.

When styling your coffee table, consider scale. Just as you need a variety of heights in your seating area, the same applies for the objects you place on top. Mix high and low. For example, place a flute vase alongside smaller, rounder ornaments.

Don’t forget that furniture can be multi-functional. Who’s to say your new item can’t be used as a bedside table
